No one is exactly sure how it happens. But once in a blue moon a new trend hits and spreads like wildfire. And, according to 3 of the most stylish girls on our pint size social panel (Emmie, Olivia and Phoebe) Jac Vanek‘s rubber bracelets are quickly taking up residence where their Silly Bandz once were.

Just about 3 years ago Jac Vanek created her first “RUTHLESS” bracelet and gave a few to friends. They told their friends and so on. Cut to this summer and our pint-sized trend experts are singing her praises. “I love the Bestie Pair” says Emmie, 10. “I wear one and gave the other to a friend”. Olivia, also 10, goes on to say she likes to wear them in pairs of 2. “They look cute that way” she says. And, Phoebe, 8 has taken to wearing one on her ankle, “to be different”.

When we asked the girls how they found out about Vanek’s bracelets, they quickly told us they saw older girls wearing them this summer at camp. Her bracelets are selling out (some are limited-editions and are increasingly hard to find) and come with some inspiring words for our impressionable girls. Our favorite? We are all having a hard time with the fact that back-to-school is right around the corner (where did the summer go?) It is just about that time to start stockpiling school supplies and prepare for the year. And, since we are on an ongoing mission to reduce our use of plastic baggies, here’s what we are packing our kids school lunch in:

• The more colors in your child’s lunchbox, the better. Select a wide variety of colors to get the most vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

• Let your kids help select the foods so they actually want to eat what you’ve packed for them.

• Send along dipping sauces for fruits and vegetables. Kids love to dip! Try things like ranch dressing, hummus or yogurt for fruit.

• Try fun, less traditional lunch foods like edamame, squeezable fruit puree pouches, leftover soup (cold) or cottage cheese with fruit to add in.

• Dessert doesn’t have to be something packaged and full of sugar. Teach your kids that fruit makes a delicious dessert or even try something like a chocolate dipped piece of fruit for a healthier sweet alternative. Thanks Jodi!
