As we’ve begun our holiday shopping and are checking our lists twice, one item of note has caught ( or re-caught ) our attention this past holiday weekend. Our first pick of way too many gifts is the Stokke Tripp Trapp.

It’s a highchair like no other. And, what really made us fall back in love with this beautiful item, was that our babies were actually sitting, face to face with us at our holiday table. Not floating around somewhere near the table in a big, eye-sore of a highchair.

Turns out, we are not the only ones who love this chair. According to Stokke, the Tripp Trapp is celebrating it’s 40th birthday next year with good reason; there are almost 8 million chairs in circulation around the globe.

So as the next few weeks get busier than normal, take a few minutes and enjoy a meal at the table. Together. Studies show it reduces obesity and makes for happier children. Which in turn, makes for happier parents.

We spoke with Catherine McCord, the creative chef who has gotten our kids to eat things we never thought they would about eating together: “Life is so busy, especially with all our crazy schedules. Meals are the one time of day that families can reconnect, share thoughts, feelings and a love of good food.”

We are all having a hard time with the fact that back-to-school is right around the corner (where did the summer go?) It is just about that time to start stockpiling school supplies and prepare for the year. And, since we are on an ongoing mission to reduce our use of plastic baggies, here’s what we are packing our kids school lunch in:

And, if you are at a loss of what make for lunch, we turned to Jodi Greebel, founder of DinDins an organic, all-natural (and delicious) NYC food delivery service for the pint-sized set to give us some tips on packing a healthy lunch. Here’s what she had to say:

• The more colors in your child’s lunchbox, the better. Select a wide variety of colors to get the most vitamins, minerals and antioxidants.

• Let your kids help select the foods so they actually want to eat what you’ve packed for them.

• Send along dipping sauces for fruits and vegetables. Kids love to dip! Try things like ranch dressing, hummus or yogurt for fruit.

• Try fun, less traditional lunch foods like edamame, squeezable fruit puree pouches, leftover soup (cold) or cottage cheese with fruit to add in.

• Dessert doesn’t have to be something packaged and full of sugar. Teach your kids that fruit makes a delicious dessert or even try something like a chocolate dipped piece of fruit for a healthier sweet alternative. Thanks Jodi!

A one-stop-shop for everything you need for a chic, impressive and easy party, Bake It Pretty is just that. An online shop founded by Amanda Krueger, who searches endlessly to find and fill it with the most creative and nostalgic supplies for baking, crafting and entertaining. We can’t get enough of Amanda and her shop so we’ve added a new monthly feature. A DIY recipe from Amanda creatively using some of her favorite items from the shop. Proving you can have your cake and make it pretty too!

To kick off the series, Amanda is teaching us how to make a delicious Quiche Enfant:

Crustless mini quiche are a fast and easy breakfast perfect for kids and adults. Use up even your tiniest scraps of leftovers for filling, and dress them up in pretty baking cups to brighten your morning (and keep your muffin pan clean, too!)

Makes approx. 6 servings

Preheat oven to 350
Line a regular muffin/cupcake pan with paper baking cups

Ingredients:

8 large eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 c shredded cheese
Filling ideas: chopped spinach, bacon, sausage, mushrooms, asparagus, tomatoes, etc. (all pieces chopped small)

Whisk eggs together with salt, and a dash of pepper (to taste.)

Add about 1 tablespoon of the filling of your choice plus a pinch of shredded cheese into each cup. Fill each cup about 2/3 full with the beaten egg mixture. Bake for about 18-22 minutes. Enjoy immediately, or cool and refrigerate. Easy to reheat and enjoy on the go.
