We were excited to hear more about what Paige has in store for us in her Spring/Summer collection that is available today.

pss: What is your background?
Paige: I have been a designer my whole life. I graduated from Parsons School of Design with a Business Degree.

pss: How did you get into designing baby wear?
Paige: I found a niche for classic styles, high fashion fabrics and colors.

pss: Where do you look for inspirations for your collections?
Paige: Everyday life. I am always doing things that inspire me.

pss: What are the things you do that inspire you to create?
Paige: My biggest influence is my environment. I was born and raised in the foothills of Southern California–scrubby mountains, sandy beaches, and all that–but I went to design school in New York City, which is basically the complete opposite. I take inspiration from both those places. I’ve always been drawn to the metropolitan bustle of Manhattan, its energy and sophistication. But I like to temper that with the breezier, more casual California feeling. It’s just as elegant, in its way, but more relaxed, the fabrics are lighter, you can wear shorts in the wintertime…

pss: Can you tell us what is going to be hot from your brand new collection?
Paige: Slate, emerald, quartz, sapphire, amethyst and ruby are the colors this season… inspired by shopping in Beverly Hills for jewelry. But I don’t usually shop for jewelry, because I enjoy making my own.

pss: What are the best looks for the coming spring and summer months for the little ones?
Paige: For boys the heathered collared tee and superfine short set. For girls the heathered dress and superfine legging set.

pss: You have a loyal celebrity following. Can you give us a sneak peak into the pieces that they have been picking up recently?
Paige: The superfine jersey romper with heathered hoodie is a popular celebrity choice.

pss: What is your vision for your brand?
Paige: I want to continue creating a lifestyle image of sophistication, class and taste that is timeless.

pss: Ideally, how would you like PaigeLauren Baby to evolve?
Paige: Starting with ‘baby steps’ and then toddler, women, home, etc…

pss: What is the best part about having your own business?
Paige: The best part about PaigeLauren Baby is that I get to be involved in all the facets of the business, from designing the clothes to overseeing the factory to talking with retailers. My days are busy, sure, but it’s never the same thing, which keeps things interesting. Ultimately, I get to do what I love and run the company that way I want it to be run.

pss: Besides your line, what other lines (adult or child) inspire you?
Paige: My biggest inspiration, both creatively and professionally, is FIGS, my sister’s neckwear company. She’s as passionate as I am about design and business, and that’s apparent in the finished product.

pss: What stores carry your line?
Paige: I’m really proud that PaigeLauren Baby is carried in such a wide variety of incredible boutiques: Fred Segal, Wonderland, Yoya, Bundle, and so many others across the country.

Two of the loveliest designers behind the most darling new line, ever/after. We were so smitten with every last piece in their collection (we literally bought one of everything) that we sat down with Christy Winston, one half of the ever/after team to find out a little more about the line and what it is really like working with your husband.

PSS: We are constantly hearing about mom owned businesses, it is so nice to see a couple doing something so creative together. Tell us a bit about your backgrounds and what made you launch ever/after?
ever/after: Well we both came from the fashion industry, first Abercombie and Fitch and then Gary from PacSun and me from James Perse. Our backgrounds, skills and experiences really compliment each other and don’t overlap so we really are a “team.” We had always fantasized about starting our own clothing brand, but it was Gary’s entrepreneurial spirit that really brought the dream to fruition. I am not a huge risk taker and would probably have kept ever/after a fun little hobby…hobbies aren’t as scary as small businesses!
When we had Ever we had the hardest time finding clothes for her that were our style. I was so sick of only finding stuff with princesses, rhinestones, and just b.a.d. fabrics. We kept asking “Why doesn’t anyone just make clothes for kids that we wear ourselves? A v-neck t-shirt in a soft fabric, with a good fit, in a beautiful color…that’s all I want.” So, we saw this void in the market and decided to try and fill it!

PSS: What is the most fun part about having your own business?
ever/after: I’ve realized it’s not that you “get to make your own hours” because when you’re a small business owner you pretty much work 24/7…well 24/6–gotta have a day of rest! What I love is that I don’t have to read someone else’s mind. It took a little time for it to sink in that I don’t have to get things approved by a VP or CEO–I could do whatever I wanted! It’s so freeing and it’s what really unleashes creativity in me.

PSS: Tell us a little about the line… What are the clothes made from?
ever/after: Pima, Pima, Pima. We use the most delicious pima cottons we could find. 90% of our R&D time is spent on hunting down beautiful fabric in the US and Peru. Most of the line is 100% Pima Cotton Jersey with a few styles in super soft Baby Fleece.

PSS: How did you decide to donate 25% of the proceeds to charity? Was it hard choosing the charities?
ever/after: In short, we just feel like we’ve been so blessed. All the life experiences, professional experiences, money, skills, talents…everything we have isn’t just meant for us. God didn’t bless us so we could hoard everything for ourselves. It all just feels like such a gift that we can’t help but give. Going through all the research to choose the charities was difficult. I remember sitting with my computer in Panera researching charities and tears streaming down my face. The environment and the reality that most of the world faces is almost too much to bear.

PSS: Aside from your clothes, what do you dress Ever in?
ever/after: Well, we’re pretty casual so she does spend about 98% of her days in ever/after duds, but I recently fell in love with All Saints kids clothes. That’s our “go-to” for skinny jeans, edgy yet feminine dresses, and rad distressed boots.

PSS: What stores carry the line?
ever/after: We are going from 5 stores to 50 stores by the end of April! Including Fred Segal|Ron Robinson, Poppy, Smoochie Baby, and Amy Coe.

PSS: Whats next for ever/after?
ever/after: We’ll we’ve been “birthed” so it’s time to grow! We’re looking forward to expanding our line offering into more sizes, fabrics, and styles. We’re hopeful that more and more stores will carry the line this year, reaching more people who are looking for a brand like ever/after, and ultimately, start to change even more stories!
